Great Exhibition
I have begun my research into the world of Royal dressmaking. I am less interested in who they made for but rather what and how they made fine fashion. I guess when I embarked on my fashion industry crusade, my aim was to keep sewing machines singing. Now I see it is not about the factory system but old world dressmaking that is not found in a garment factory.
These remarkable skills are fading even in ateliers with the fall of commercial demand for beautiful garments made with high levels of construction. It is important that as one explores the dream elements you desire to bring to life that you get clear on what you seek to create. What parts of the path light you up?
For the Elsa Fitzgerald website, I am working on starting the Sewing Trail blog where I take the community along as I seek to discover the royal dressmaker in myself. I will research those beautiful fashion coffee table books, visit museums with fine fashion collections while I learn to sew at a high level. I will finish the painting with lace dresses as the starting point with a spring exhibition.
I really enjoyed looking over the textiles I brought back from the travels to Asia.
Lace will always be my first and last love. I am wearing two vintage dresses here which I intend to recreate.
These are lace fabrics I sourced from a German supplier with offices in New York.
I cannot wait to have a closet full of beautiful finely made fashion I have made for myself.
