Playful Possibilities
Aligning with your passion is centered in joy. Not sure why, but as we age we deny ourselves childlike play as if it is surely meant to be left behind. Yet, through exploration and the dance with those heart flutters we find the magic that has been boxed up. Like a fashion archive dress living in a conservation box, we are denying the world the beauty of being our true selves.
Fashion has always been fun in that the fabrics are works of art themselves sewn with creativity and skill. I breathe into my chest a giddiness as I explore more. Art, craft and a making culture is such a necessary part of a balanced mind. As our hands begin to sew we are then able to release the mind’s hold.
I have been leaning into fashion educational entertainment that makes my heart happy. I get to learn about fine fashion methods and the individual stories of the lives of people who sew. I love journalistic style approaches to fashion culture. My brain tries to configure the business logic for the time allocation, but my heart says give it a break and just play.
Jill Andrew’s studio looks like an old world fashion film set. I love our Weds film nights. We get to play with fine fabrics and discuss the construction of the designs. She is going to be off to Paris soon to go to the fashion exhibitions. She has such a wealth of knowledge and joy for sewing. I enjoy every minute I get to learn and share that knowledge with the community. These are two of her fashion designs that you can learn more about in the latest Episode of the Fashion Heritage Needle Trades Show.
These are so beautiful in the next episode I am going to get to play dress up. Trying on some of her beautiful gowns. I cannot wait and will need to bring some of my vintage hats and gloves.
We also discussed these books that we have in our collections.
We explore more of her rare fine fabrics collection in preparation for Valentines day.
