Filmset Fashion
I had plans that changed and gave me a day to play. For a moment I went through the long list of things that I had to do and decided instead to have an artist date with myself. What started with a quick vintage pick-up turned into an afternoon of dress-up. When I first arrived I was struggling to think of the looks I would put together, but as I explored the lovely pieces and spent time catching up with Cindi, I began to twirl with fashion styles with joy.
I have have always loved the power of storytelling with beautiful garments and their ability to ignite a feeling of romance and nostalgia. Cindi’s shop the Stone House Collective is located in historic old Ellicott City. She has provided garments for theater, film and television shows like the Dressmaker, Lady of the Lake, the Marvelous Miss Mazel, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and more.
Three hours later I was able to pick out 4 fashion looks for an upcoming photoshoot and potential film. Even if you feel awkward getting back into being your true self, take baby steps towards those special places where you feel like your most complete self. As you do don’t stop keep diving deeper and explore the wonder you may find. Remember what it was to be a child and let the day lead you on a wonderful adventure.
You know even before meeting Cindi, I really connected to the fashion in the films and shows she supplied the costumes for and somehow magically we found each other. This suit and hat are so fabulous. I truly can and did get lost all day in this collection of vintage heaven.
It is so much fun trying on gloves and looking for the right hat. One day I will have a huge closet of beautiful vintage fashion for my royal dressmaker film set. I also enjoy examining the construction of the garments as there is such find details you do not have in modern dress.
The interiors as lovely and works of art and the merchandising is like going into various film sets. If you are in the Maryland area check out the Stone House Collective and the Retropolitan Collection in Old Ellicott City. Cindi has two openings for artist spaces if you are looking to show and sell your work. Details to reach out are located at the bottom of the post.
Look at this lovely blue dress with this lamp. I could just live in this character’s fashion life. Well actually I would make up my own and then match up the fashion with it.
