Surf Spot

Stumbling upon the words and showing up in your most awkward unprepared self is far better than leaving that idea on the shelf. A beautiful library of books untouched is like a lovely gown never worn. Try on this life even when the shifts do not feel right. Growth is confusing because the natural state prefers to stay the same. Don’t let the uncomfortable moments when moving forward convince you that you should turn back.

Silence the critic and quicken the spirit, you have to move swiftly so you do not let the waves return you to shore. I recall when learning to surf the effort it took to paddle out and the timing you had to align in order to turn quickly and pop-up. You had to trust that your mind and body would work together and you had to shift into various positions through out the ride. More often you fell down and had to then paddle back out.

Though from those paddle outs you get stronger and more determined to try again until you stand. Learning new things and becoming the person you love to be takes a great deal of inner and mental training. Strength and courage build like a muscle one that can withstand the obstacles over time. So when you feel in unfamiliar territory trust your gut that you have got what it takes to try on this dream to see if the dress fits.

These images shot by Pat Bourque were captured at the Creative Labs wearing loaned Retropolitan garments. Cindi the owner supplies garments for many shows and movies I have enjoyed. Often I have wondered not if I can design for Hollywood rather I would like to write the stories that move the audience to see fashion in its full beauty in a movie. Not always because they have to wear it, but as you experience a sculpture or a painting in moving image, it stirs a feeling that celebrates beauty.

This photoshoots never made sense to me. I would go see Cindi pick out a collection then I would style them to suit various looks for Pat to capture.

Now when I look back on these images I am so glad we created them. Some of the garments I purchased in the end and became a part of my own collection.

It is ok to feel that you can not hold the decision to stay strong as you ride out the wave, but the nice thing is you have a choice to keep growing or/just jump off the side. In this case I am here to paddle out as many times as it times to live the life I am called to bring forth with joy.
